Ana I Martinez’s focuses her creativity in the use of new mediums. It is a proposal of a set photographs with virtual movement. Through the use of LEDs, with a creative and dynamically chromatic palette, the artist creates an optical illusion of movement. The figures are linearly designed and synthetic, in the way of proactive drawings seem to be multiply in sequence. The spectator is faced to a world of technical effects and to a spectacle of forms and delirious and interchangeable colors. The exhibition space is transformed into an explosive perceptive field.
Nevertheless, what we are to consider here is not only the achievement of the original technicality applied to photography. The artist intends to put forth a deep conceptual ideology. On one hand, her proposal directs us to reflect on the feminine and woman as iconographic center of the piece. What can also be seen like a generic process of identification as is her feminine condition. But foremost, is its reflection on the human condition and its levels for perfection. Based on Eneagram theories, Martinez redesigns her vision of the woman with the creation of nine typologies. She is separating herself from characteristics and self; Martinez plays in an artistic manner with characteristics and individualities recreating diverse individuals by means of her movable photographs. The women of Martinez have a particular “allure”.
Each sample reveals a rhythm and movements that outline the character, a singular type, an expressive sensuality.
Martinez exercises her talent with her drawing. Her photographs are appropriations of universal photographic images or her own photographs, which are reformulated in Photoshop. The icons have been synthesized and taken to the maximum of its linear format. The result is a totally personal image, an absolutely intimate, deprived and unitary drawing. Martinez establishes her work on mixed mediums and with techniques that creates a hybrid, totally original body of work.
